A Letter to the "newbies"
What you need to know
if you’ve never done a Paint Nite
If you've experienced a Paint Party with us, you already know that we live by this quote: There is no must in art because art is free (Wassily Kandinsky).

Prior to any of our Paint Nites, you can hear the newbies saying "my painting is NOT going to look like that" What they don't know yet is that it doesn't need to look like that! The painting that we present to you is there to inspire, just that. Your inspirational piece is open to interpretation. You’re the boss of your canvas, you can do whatever you want with it -if that’s not freedom, I don’t know what is!

It's amazing to see those "newbies" at the end of the session totally impressed with what they were capable of doing, even if they never ever painted before! and to see how everyone's paintings are so different, yet so beautiful.

When you let yourself try something new, of course it will be scary because you’re not in control, and you don’t know yet what is going to happen. The good news is that, in this case at least, it’s only paint. You can paint over it and try again! Every trial will be a different outcome and it’s a very liberating feeling to overcome those fears and jump into a new activity, even if you realize you shouldn’t quit your job to pursue a career in art.

“I promise not to judge my painting, or the paintings of others’” says the second part of the oath we take before our Paint Nites. It’s not too hard not to judge others’ paintings, but not to judge ours? That’s a whole different story. But that’s just our ego talking. Don’t listen to it, just do it, says Nike. But most importantly, listen to Vincent Van Gogh when he claims “If you hear a voice within you saying, ”You are not a painter,” then by all means paint… and that voice will be silenced” -there’s not much more to add to the master.
I know, I know, you're still a little incredulous of your Picasso skills. Well, just come to one of our Paint Nites and you’ll see my friend.
Would you like to hear it from people that have done it?
